BkAssist ® - Chapter 7 Story Board - 5
This is the Schedules & Forms Page, where you'll spend most of your time while you prepare the case for filing:
What you're seeing:
- BkAssist picks the state of the debtor's residence as the default "applicable state". Since Mary has been domiciled in
Massachusetts for the past 730 days, we've left the default choice alone.
- Mary doesn't own her home and doesn't need a homestead exemption as a result. We've chosen the federal exemption scheme to take
advantage of its larger wildcard exemption (roughly $11,000 as compared to $6,000). BkAssist makes it very easy to do a "what if"
comparison between exemption schemes -- choose a scheme, do an "Auto Exempt All" from the assets screen, and compare the results.
- Mary plans to file her case on April 1, 2013, which is coincidentally the day when new federal exemptions and new means-test numbers became effective.
- Mary's income qualifies her for a waiver of the Bankruptcy Court filing fee, so we've chosen "IFP Waiver" for the fee choice.
- We accepted the default behavior of letting BkAssist calculate the statistical information that appears on Form B1.
Information to use in generating schedules
The scrolling list in the middle of this screen contains a list of information categories that BkAssist will need to complete
the filing package for this debtor. The contents of the list vary depending on the filing chapter, the projected filing date, the applicable state,
and other factors. In general, you will want to visit every item in the list. For purposes of this story board,
we're showing examples of just these few:
You will eventually use the "Check" button to verify that all the information you've entered is consistent. You are not required to
do a "check" step, but you should.
We'll select Prior/Pending Cases by double-clicking on that choice in the list...
